About MPC VTS Reader

MPC VTS Reader is a DirectShow source filter that reads DVD VIDEO_TS folder structures directly from disk, enabling DVD playback from a folder or ISO without a physical disc drive. It is part of the MPC-HC project and is included in X Codec Pack.

When you rip a DVD to your hard drive, the output is typically a VIDEO_TS folder containing VOB, IFO and BUP files. Standard DirectShow players cannot open this structure directly. VTS Reader acts as the source filter that reads these files, passes the MPEG-2 program stream to the DVD Video Decoder, and handles navigation data from the IFO files.

VTS Reader pairs with MPC DVD Video Decoder for a complete DVD playback chain from disc image. Together they enable full DVD playback including chapter navigation in MPC-HC, MPC-BE and other DirectShow players, without requiring a physical DVD drive or a paid DVD playback application.

Installed to System32 (64-bit) and SysWOW64 (32-bit) and registered automatically with DirectShow.

MPC VTS Reader is a DirectShow source filter that reads DVD VIDEO_TS folder structures from disk. It enables playback of ripped DVDs stored as a VIDEO_TS folder or mounted ISO image in DirectShow-based media players, without requiring a physical disc or a paid DVD playback application.
With MPC VTS Reader and MPC DVD Video Decoder installed, open MPC-HC or MPC-BE and use File > Open DVD/BD, then point it to the folder containing the VIDEO_TS directory. VTS Reader handles the source reading and DVD navigation while the decoder handles the video.
VTS Reader reads the VIDEO_TS folder structure. To play an ISO file you first need to mount it as a virtual drive using a tool such as Windows built-in ISO mounting (right-click the ISO and select Mount), then open the mounted drive letter in your media player as a DVD source.
VTS Reader is the source filter that reads the files. To actually decode and display the video you also need a DVD video decoder such as MPC DVD Video Decoder. Both are included in X Codec Pack and work together automatically in the DirectShow filter graph.
Any DirectShow-compatible player that supports DVD navigation will use VTS Reader automatically once installed, including MPC-HC, MPC-BE and PotPlayer. Windows Media Player also supports it but has limited DVD navigation UI without Windows DVD Player installed.
Yes. It is an open-source component from the MPC-HC project. It installs VTSReader.ax to System32 and SysWOW64 and registers it as a COM server. It contains no adware or spyware and can be removed cleanly via the uninstaller.
